Best Rooftop Tent Brand? Why iKamper Stands Out

iKamper is a useful brand to compare when you want a rooftop tent designed around a relatively quick setup and a hard shell that closes for travel. Before choosing a model, our team would focus on its open footprint, sleeping dimensions, closed height, and weight rather than assuming that a well-known brand will fit your vehicle or your camping style.

Thule Tepui is worth comparing if you are considering a soft-shell rooftop tent, while Roofnest is another hard-shell brand you may encounter as you shop. Compare specific models instead of brand names alone: a tent that feels roomy at camp may take more effort to open or extend farther beside the vehicle than your parking space allows.

Start with your vehicle manufacturer’s roof-load guidance, then account for the tent, rack, mounting hardware, and anything else carried on the roof while driving. You also need a rack and mounting arrangement approved for the particular tent, plus enough clearance for its closed profile; do not treat a vehicle’s parked load capacity as permission to exceed its driving limit.

Check the product’s listed specifications when evaluating fit and safety come before brand preference.

If you change campsites frequently, practice the full opening and closing routine before a trip, including handling the ladder and packing bedding without forcing the tent shut. If you tend to stay put, a ground-based option may be more practical; our Starview bubble tent camping guide can help you plan that kind of setup, and our featured Luxurious Inflatable Starview Bubble Tent for Camping is a separate option to consider rather than a rooftop tent.

Our short answer is iKamper, with an important qualification: buy the specific tent that fits your vehicle and trip, not the brand’s reputation by itself. Before you leave, follow the tent and rack instructions for installation and care, and dry the tent thoroughly before long-term storage.
